Early Childhood Education in Haiti Starts at the Academy
Strong futures start early. At the HavServe International Academy and Learning Center in Southern Haiti, learning begins with children, their families, and a community that believes in their future. The new school year began on September 7, 2026.
A place to begin learning
For many Academy students, school is a first for their family. The Academy is a community-led school in rural Southern Haiti, serving children from early childhood through middle school. It currently serves 250 students, including 98 children ages 3 to 6 in early childhood education.
In the early years, children need room to ask questions, practice new skills, and get to know their teachers and classmates. Qualified teachers and learning materials help make that daily work possible. Family engagement helps connect what happens at school with the people who know each child best.

Learning reaches beyond the classroom
A school day involves more than lessons. At the Academy, a living classroom garden gives students a place to learn about growing food and food security. Safe water, solar energy, and internet access are also part of the school environment.
These parts of the Academy serve different needs, but they belong together. Children learn in classrooms, explore in the garden, and grow within a school shaped by local leadership and family involvement. HavServe Children and Family Services walks alongside that community as it supports the next generation.
An early start with room to keep going
The Academy’s work does not end with a child’s first lessons. Students can continue learning there through middle school. Scholarships offer a pathway to secondary and higher education.
That longer view matters when we talk about back-to-school giving. Learning materials, qualified teachers, and family engagement support the school year ahead. The garden adds hands-on food security learning. Together, these activities show how the Academy walks with students as they grow academically and personally, without asking one school year to carry every hope for their future.
