Break the cycle of extreme poverty & hunger in Haiti

Today, we face a moral challenge to eliminate the ongoing tragedy of world hunger. Basic math tells us this hunger is preventable. Our world of 6 billion produces enough to feed 10 billion.

Yet almost a billion people go hungry. With the combined scourges of hunger and AIDS, 18% of children under the age of 5 in Haiti is underweight, which leads to higher levels of chronic illness, behavior problems as well as adverse physical health and mental health outcomes. Eliminating hunger isn’t solely a moral issue. There are compelling practical reasons. As Norman Borlaug, Nobel Peace Prize Laureate and founder of the World Food Prize, says, and other experts attest, “You can’t build peace on empty stomachs.”

Hunger and poverty actively contribute to the rise of terrorism. Hunger, malnutrition and the disease and sickness that they cause undermine human development and can drain a country’s economy.

There is a plan to eliminate hunger in Haiti by 2025. That is 13 years from now and an entire generation that will be lost. WE CAN’T WAIT – THE TIME IS NOW!! It is an important moral challenge to remember to do what we can – to do all we can – in the fight to end hunger in Haiti. Join HavServe in this most important mission to give the children a fighting chance. We look forward to your helping us promote the 8 Millennium Development Goals  for Haiti.
