Annual Summer Camp and Educational Enrichment Program

HavServe Volunteer Service Network hosts its annual Summer Camp and Educational Enrichment Program in Lebrun, Haiti during the month of July. Haiti has continued to make strides towards meeting development goals set by local leaders and international delegates, but remains plagued by a lack of resources and human capital. HavServe’s camp annually provides 500 local children in rural Haiti nourishing meals, while also providing them with the tools needed to build a successful future.

The Annual Summer Camp and Educational Enrichment Program is one of the main programs offered by our organization. With the support from volunteers from around the world, the HavServe team hosts and feeds 500 local children in the village of Lebrun. Our children participants learn soft and technical skills they need in order to thrive in a rural environment. From learning how to recycle and care for the environment, to instruction on gardening, nutrition, technology and hygiene/personal care, the camp is designed as a community project to close international education gaps. Its implementation informs children about the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals (SGDs) of achieving no poverty, zero hunger, good health and well-being, and quality education.

Our mission every summer in Haiti is to ensure that no child in the area we service ever goes to bed hungry. With unwavering support throughout the past eight years, we have been able gather the funding and people-power to serve children in need in Haiti.

Unrelenting issues with infrastructure, an insufficient number of qualified teachers, overcrowded classes, and a shortage of educational materials have long burdened the quality of children’s education in rural Haiti. HavServe’s projects in Lebrun support kindergartens and elementary schools in rural communities that are affected by chronic poverty. In rural Haiti, many parents are illiterate and place little emphasis on their children’s education, so volunteers work with teachers to help create more interactive and student-centered learning environments. They bring enthusiasm to class activities, and engage the children to help them learn and stay motivated. Our volunteers’ cross-cultural exposure with local children allows both parties to expand their global awareness.

  • The purpose of this trip is to learn about HavServe’s mission and vision, to interact with children in rural Haiti, and to understand how you can get more involved.
  • Travelers will participate in the annual summer camp by engaging with and serving meals to children, while learning how HavServe operates and why we do what we do.
  • Excellent opportunity for travelers to understand how their skills and abilities can connect with HavServe’s mission and how they can be employed future trips.

Volunteers live in the HavServe volunteer home with support from HavServe trained staff members.
