HavServe International Academy is a high quality education environment in rural Haiti providing leadership development education to children in extreme poverty. Team HavServe gives its children a pathway out of poverty through quality education, a focus on leadership development, and a commitment to Haiti’s strong values of liberty and dignity.
The Problem
Of that 50 percent of children enrolled in elementary school, fewer than 20 percent will graduate from 6th grade. Less than 10 percent will pass the national exams. While the government provides universal free education, school uniforms and books are cost prohibitive, and there is a debilitating shortage of teachers. Many teachers in rural communities usually are not educated beyond the 6th grade.
Be Part of the Solution: Primary and Secondary Education
HavServe believes the next generation is the future of Haiti and that education is the key to success for these children. HavServe runs a school for 100 children and provides support and training to 1250 primary students in six other elementary schools.
Because we believe in helping Haitians help each other, empowering local teachers is the most conducive way to improving education nationwide across Haiti. Each year, HavServe works with hundreds of teachers to conduct trainings on curriculum development, teaching methods, parent-teacher interaction, grading, and more. By encouraging local communities to take responsibility for their future, we are changing a nation, one child at a time.
Trade School
In the HavServe Community Center we are teaching tailoring and computer literacy. Future classes will include English, carpentry, mechanics, and musical instrument repair, water management, and gardening, among others. Trade schools offer rural farmers an opportunity to learn a new trade and provide income for their families. It also brings services to the rural communities that are currently only available in larger cities, contributing to the growth of rural economies.

Educational Trips are conducted in various regions of Haiti. HavServe works with teachers at HavServe’s International Academy in the village of Lebrun, as well as with six other schools to ensure the highest level of teaching instruction for the next generation of Haitians.
Travelers will work directly with teachers in workshop formats to train locals on various teaching topics, such as conducting parent-teacher conferences, science experiments, or working with special needs students. Between 30 – 100 teachers participate in workshops over a 3 – 4 day period. The typical trip schedule involves 2 days of travel and 4 –5 days of workshops.
