(1888PressRelease) August 22, 2011 – HavServe founder Carline Brice announced that Joyce M. Hunter has joined the volunteer-based not-for-profit 501(c)3 organization as CEO, effective immediately. As CEO, Joyce will spearhead HavServe’s fundraising, outreach and organizational efforts, freeing Brice to focus on volunteerism and planning between travel to the Haitian villages where she is developing Soccer, Music and Teaching programs with the help of local leaders and international volunteers. The name, HavServe, is the understanding that “if you have, then you serve.”
Ms. Hunter is the CEO of Vulcan Enterprises LLC, which provides business advisory services in the area of health information technology to the federal government, corporations and non-profits. She has written articles for Advanced Information Technology for Healthcare Executives, published white papers titled “Aging and Health IT” and the “Impact of Healthcare on the US Economy” (producing a Maryland Cable channel program on the same subject). Ms. Hunter has developed strategic partnerships in the delivery of health information technology with industry and government, including collaborating on health disparities initiatives (The National Collaborative for Health Information Technology for Underserved Populations with the HHS Office of Minority Health and SHIRE). In addition, she has developed a framework for rebuilding the healthcare system in Haiti and participated in a Virginia Cable Show for “OneCause OneFocus: United for Haiti” with Dr. Jeena Ingraham in 2010.
Upon making the announcement, Brice said, “It is horrible to see the level of suffering from extreme poverty in Haiti, and as a Haitian from the Diaspora, I am extremely proud to welcome Joyce M. Hunter to the leadership of our team of international volunteers who are dedicating their time, talents, and resources to help Haiti to help itself.”
As one of her first initiatives, Ms. Hunter promoted efforts to raise funds, via GlobalGiving.org, for HavServe’s Youth Soccer Program in Haiti. If funded, the project will provide 1 safe soccer field, gear and equipment, mentoring to children and youth, training in life skills, healthy lifestyle training, health education regarding HIV/AIDS and cholera prevention, while focusing on school attendance and performance. The goal was to raise $1000 per day from August 3rd through August 23rd, via the internationally renowned Global Giving website
The following goals have been identified for HavServe’s CEO:
1. Broaden our network of supporters and volunteers: HavServe believes that by joining forces with individuals and organizations who share our mission to improve the quality of life of the Haitian people, we as a team of volunteers can make an even greater impact on small villages throughout Haiti. By raising awareness about our efforts to provide sports equipment, musical instruments, educational and other resources to selected communities, HavServe will increase its support base and encourage more people to join us in our efforts to improve small communities in Haiti.
2. Enhance our fundraising efforts: HavServe recognizes that fundraising is an essential component in order to enhance our efforts and provide maximum support to our communities in Haiti. By focusing on ways to increase our fundraising efforts through volunteer-driven fundraising activities, corporate support, building donor relationships and hosting events, we will better be able to increase our efforts and better help the communities we identify and/or request our support throughout each year.
3. Increase program efficiency and create a sense of connection: HavServe’s goal is to launch community-led development projects requested by the community as well as continue to develop quality educational materials to better meet the specific needs of those who request our support. By familiarizing our volunteers, partners and supporters with the communities receiving their donated resources we will be creating a “TEAM-oriented” mindset allowing our supporters to understand who their efforts are benefiting.
Ms. Hunter earned a BA from Villanova University and an MBA in Marketing from the University of Pennsylvania, Wharton School of Business, has a certificate in Emotional Intelligence and is a Wharton Fellow. She is also the recipient of the 2011 Joseph P. Wharton Award and is recognized in the 2011 Cambridge Who’s Who directory.
